Museum

St Bartholomew’s Hospital Museum tells the story of nine centuries of healthcare at the edge of the City of London. Originally opened in the 1990s, it showcases objects from the diverse collections held by Barts Health NHS Trust Archives.

Archives

The permanent exhibition includes original and facsimile objects, records, and works of art from the collections of Barts Health NHS Trust Archives, spanning over 900 years of the hospital’s history. The objects on display in the museum are only a small part of the archives collection: search their catalogue online to identify objects of interest and contact them directly to make an appointment. Find out more about booking appointments on their website.

Please note, St Bartholomew’s Hospital Museum does not hold specimens. Barts Pathology Museum, also on the hospital site, is part of Queen Mary University of London Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, and is not normally open to the public.

Finding the entrance

From West Smithfield, enter via the Henry VIII Gatehouse, then straight ahead through the archway under the North Wing and into The Square. The entrance to the North Wing is on your left facing The Square.
