Following their thrilling performances of this programme with Jonathan Sells at Usher Hall, Edinburgh International Festival and in the Chapel of St Peter and St Paul, Greenwich, the Monteverdi Choir and English Baroque Soloists will perform two of J.S. Bach’s miniature masterpieces, alongside Handel’s barnstorming setting of Psalm 110, Dixit Dominus, conducted by Johnny Sells, all within the extraordinary setting of the newly reopened Great Hall at Barts North Wing.

The recipient of many awards, the Monteverdi Choir was named ‘Best Choir’ at the 2024 Oper! Awards, with the jury noting that: “At festivals, on concert tours and in their numerous recordings, this is an ensemble whose quality will always leave the listener speechless.”

Fresh from celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2024, the Choirs 2025 programme has a range of concerts and projects in support of MCO’s expansion of its repertoire and conductor collaborations. This included the opening concert of the Edinburgh International Festival, performing John Tavener’s monumental The Veil of The Temple as the central and only professional choir involved.

Other highlights in 2025 have included Bach with Masaaki Suzuki and the English Baroque Soloists, Mozart with Pablo Heras-Casado and a semi-staged Rossini with Jakob Lehmann. This December, the Monteverdi Choir and English Baroque Soloists will perform Handel’s Messiah with Christophe Rousset.

This concert will allow the Choir and the English Baroque Soloists to unleash the full range of their expressive potential, showcased through the intricacy of Bach and the virtuosity of Handel’s vocal and instrumental writing.
